PMA Event Update

Hi everyone,
Sorry I didn’t get this update to you sooner, had a few personal matters to attend to.

Anyway, I had the meeting with Don at Campus Life and we are in the mist of getting approval for a movie night. We are waiting to see if Campus Life will fund the event.

As was the case for the TV marathon, the movies still have to be paid to be played on campus, hence the application for Campus Life to aid in paying the bill. Refreshment funding has also been requested.

As for our ideas for future/next semester fundraising events, Don informed me that in the past parties have not been great fundraisers and that the payment to have required security at the event is very high. We will have to rethink the party idea even though it is not ruled out completely.

Due to most of our students being in a final craze, we will not have another formal meeting this semester, if the movie night is approved, that will be considered a meeting on our agenda records.

As for creating the new positions in PMA, in the beginning of the coming semester I will have a formal time (as do all student organization officers) to review and if so desired, alter PMA’s constitution and add in new positions. This is when the new positions will be created and elections will then be held.

I will keep you all up to date regarding the movie night. If approved, we will be showing the Movie Rain Man. Any questions, you know how to reach me.

Good luck in continuing to prep for finals. I am sure you will all get As across the board!

PMA Meeting Oct. 3, 2013

HI Everybody,
So here is what we went over today in the meeting. The first meeting of the semester we go over the purpose of PMA as well as what are future dates look like.

Tomorrow I will post our new calendar with what has been scheduled thus fare. For now, here is what we discussed today.

PMA of two interlocking divisions, we have our “Mentoring Peer Mentors” that get trained and aid in high school lectures where we go talk to future students with disabilities as well as when the high schools come to us. We also work with current students by giving advice. It is NOT required for everyone in PMA to be a “Mentoring Peer Mentor”. Our other division is the social outlet. Where you meet new people and have fun. We are planning such events as a Zombie race, indoor rock-climbing as well as movie marathons on campus.

Our meetings this semester will most likely be every two weeks. But for those who can’t make them, not to worry, as you see here, we post all of our info on FB and our blog on CCM’s website.

An important note to remember is that when confidential information is given out in a meeting about a student or when we work with high school students, that information NEVER leave PMA!

Should a member want to start mentoring, we train you and have you watch already mentoring members to learn the ropes. We have uniform shirts that show PMA on it and if you mentor, you must wear either kakis, slacks, blouses, sweater and not hats or jeans.

We are one of the few student associations that are based out of a specific department (Disability Services). PMA though, does have non-disabled student members, we welcome anyone wanting to help!!!

We are also planning to make a moc-video of the process of when students speak to professors about accommodations and what it is like to schedule a test in our department to be able to show at high school lectures.

PMA does not “sell” CCM, or work with only students who are at or will be going to CCM. When we talk in the high schools, we also give information to students with disabilities who will be entering the workforce instead of school or will be going to another college. Yes, we are from CCM but our number one goal in mentoring, is to help any and as many students with disabilities as we can. – and we have fun doing it!

So whether you want to just have fun or be a mentor too or aren’t a disabled student, we welcome you to PMA!

I think that is all of it, if I forgot something, I will add a comment to this! LOL

Any questions???
